Choosing plants over pets _can_ have some upsides. For one, they don't complain about fireworks. Two, they don't complain if you're too rough with them. Three, they're more photogenic than animate creatures.
@mushroom_soup not even succulents? There _are_ scales of difficulty.
"Aloe plants are only poisonous to cats if they chew on or eat bits of them. The latex in the leaves can make your cat sick with diarrhea, vomiting, and lethargy, but cats seldom eat enough of the plant to cause more severe symptoms."
"One of the struggles of owning pets and plants is creating a space that's safe for both. Fortunately, most succulents are completely harmless to animals. Additionally, most animals instinctively avoid eating succulents. They just don't smell or taste very appetizing."
You could say that they're the prime social-distancing plants.
