Air Quality is not so great around here
Can I solder the UART Port with my fat old fingers 🤔
Let's mask out with Sticky Tape ... All the parts that should NOT be soldered 🙏
Pardon my horrid soldering 🙏 ... It tested OK with a multimeter 🎉
Wished IKEA didn't put the pads so close to the surface mounted components ... But we're all done soldering the UART Port! 🎉
IKEA Air Quality Sensor has the same size as a Breadboard 🤔
@lupyuen - The swedish name "vindriktning" translates to "wind direction". Do they actually have a wind direction sensor too?
@vattuvarg @lupyuen Interestingly they don't 🤔
@vattuvarg They do, but requires a manual user interface. Lick your index finger, hold it up in the air and feel which side gets colder/dryer. Classic Do-It-Yourself IKEA ;-)
but good nails, which speaks well of your self-discipline
@amerika Thanks I just trimmed them even shorter, might increase the sensitivity on my fingertips 🤔
@lupyuen Friend! You might be our rescue!
We need a particle sensor for our LibreSilicon clean room project, as explained here in my video about LibreSilicon, from that timestamp forward:
https://youtu.be/5C1P83oO57k?t=2255
Maybe you can help us with that?
@leviathan Hmmm sorry I'm not so familiar with particle sensors, I just bought one from IKEA to experiment
@lupyuen That's ok!
We were going to do the same, but maybe you wanna try figure out how to adapt it to measuring 500nm particles and less?
It's an open source project!
@lupyuen Also:
In case you're interested, some of my friends from back in Hong Kong and Shenzhen kind of ended up here in Europe as well (most are in Londong, I'm in Portugal), and we're starting now a new startup here (with me as diversity-鬼佬😂 )
Meetings are in Cantonese or 普通话 when I'm around😌 (我的广东话不好😅 )
Maybe you wanna join?😉
@leviathan Probably not right now, but lemme experiment and learn some more about particle sensors 👍
@lupyuen Thanks!!🤗
@lupyuen Does this make any sense?
I looked at similar sensors, and just the sensor is way more expensive than the full ikea thing.
Since it's so cheap I guess reliability is extremely low and probably useless.
Ok, Static Light Scattering is cheap, but you still need a laser and some computing power.
Moreover I guess it should be calibrated, as I doubt the instrument can retain calibration after manufacturing and shipping.
@rastinza It's just a consumer grade sensor I guess? After I hook up the UART port to get the raw readings, let's see how accurate they are
@lupyuen That's great!
How will you measure the accuracy?
@rastinza Good question ... I'll need an expensive sensor I guess 🤔
@lupyuen In my city there are sensors to measure the quality of the air, and they publish the data online daily.
You could go nearby the area of one of such sensors, write down the reading of yours and wait for them to publish the data.
Do this a few times and you should see if it works decently.
@rastinza Thanks for the tip! Will try that 👍
IKEA Air Quality Sensor ... Surprisingly small
