one thing I always found weird is when people on fedi act like "omg why are you replying to me I don't know you" when they post publicly to the federated timeline, and this network depends on small instances using the federated timeline

@eris I mean, there's no way to post to local without /also/ posting to federated. I could see being miffed and/or freaking out slightly!
@IceWolf glitch-soc (mastodon fork most masto instances run on these days) and misskey both allow posting local-only posts, and idk about misskey but glitch-soc does post it to the local timeline but visible only to local users
there's also the option for instances to use limited allow-list federation if they only wish to interact with tankie.social and cumchamps.ml
