Ok, it's official now: I'm going to give a talk about satellite pollution at a UN (!!) workshop.

I have very mixed feelings about this! It's 100% in person, which is SO much stupid travel pollution (in order to try to stop so much stupid satellite pollution, ugh). But it's in Milan!! I've never even thought about going to Milan, it's just so fancy and out of reach. So... wow.

What are things an uncultured north american person who loves food and doesn't speak any Italian at all should definitely see/eat while in Milan? (I'll be there in October)

(And what do I wear to a UN workshop??? Ugh I wish there was a scientist uniform I could wear everywhere)

@sundogplanets wow, great, I live in Milan. Let me know if there is public access to the event.

As for food, in Italy Milan is famous for the cotoletta milanese and ossobuco con risotto allo zafferano. But if you are not much into Italian nuances, I'd suggest you focus on trying the Italian version of your favourite meals, be it pizza, pasta, risotto, gelato, panino, whatever,... If you manage to find a place that's not overly touristy, you'll probably enjoy it a lot.

@mapto@masto.bg @sundogplanets as for seeing, I'd suggest you don't miss the chance to extend your visit. Of course one option, that I consider overly ambitious, is trying to visit all the touristy places in Italy like Florence and Venice. You can get to these and even to Rome by high speed train, but would need to stay for at least one night to get a feeling.

In a long weekend around Milan you could get to enjoy the Alps (lake Como) and maybe the Mediterranean (Genova), dedicating one very intensive day to each of these.

If you choose to focus on the city, very attractive zones are Navigli (nice channels), Brera (boutiques), Isola (more hipster), not to mention Duomo (the cathedral) and Castello. A few museums and galleries are also worthwhile, but it depends what you're keen on. Suggesting to you the Leonardo Museum of Science would be too much of a cliche. :)

@mapto@qoto.org @mapto@masto.bg @sundogplanets Fast train to Venice-2 hr 25min. You can make it a day trip if you have to but Venice is so calm and beautiful at night. October not so many tourists I think.
