Google earned $26.5B last quarter, a mere 27.5% profit margin, and they’re doing layoffs today and have a founder telling people they need to work 60 hour weeks.
Imagine having all the resources and talent you could ever ask for, just a tectonic amount of skill and infrastructure behind you in a world that looks like this one does, and having no idea what to do with any of that at all beyond making a line go up for people who don’t even work there.
It's so sad. It's just so god damn sad.
@mhoye it's also depressing to see whole cohorts of top tier computer science graduates getting vacuumed into the Google machine so they can put all their talent into getting a .05% increased clickthrough rate for Adwords
@breadwizard @mhoye I personally find this way too worrying. I don't believe there are bullshit jobs, there are people ready to do bullshit work for a disproportionate amount of money. Because salaries at Google and Big Tech are not at market rates in any country.
