The #fediblock issue around CISA seems to be a tempest in a tea cup.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to block CISA (they provide useful cyber threat info to the public), much less block an entire server simply because their account resides there.

But as far as I can tell, this is all about one small server deciding to block them.

Odd that it's gotten so much attention.

Correction:

I've just been informed that four different servers have blocked them now (beyond the individual one that I saw when I took note of this last night).

I think there is a misunderstanding here about what CISA is, and what they do.

IMHO, if an admin blocks a server like this it will be detrimental to their members, who could be deprived of important info.

@clearing_fog The original blocker stated her justification as "ACAB" (all cops are bad). African-Americans and socialists/anarchists regardless of race have a long history of brutal persecution by law-enforcement and spy agencies, so they have deep reasons for their suspicion.

@dennis_jernberg

I get it, but CISA is neither law enforcement nor spy agency. They don’t do those things.

I feel like this is a really unfortunate misunderstanding.

@clearing_fog It may be, but their perspective is radically different from that of most infosec people. Me, I try to understand where they're coming from.

@dennis_jernberg

I try to understand where everyone is coming from. Very much appreciate that quality.

Regardless, it's still blocked for the wrong reasons. There are justifications for marginlized people around the world for feeling the way they do. It shouldn't be a reason to censor valuable information for ALL people, however. That's not helping black folks who may need cyber-security information to protect themselves or their sytem(s).
