My brain has usually had four shelves for languages:

- Swedish
- English
- German
- Other

When I started learning Japanese, Spanish words started falling out, and my brain would give me "kedo" when I was looking for "pero" ("but").

When I started learning Cantonese it pushed out my Japanese and I could no longer make simple sentences in Japanese.

But the other day when I was trying to think something in German, Cantonese words intruded on my German shelf. This is new and worrying. I'm not really better at Cantonese than a few years ago, just worse at German. 😟
