Ultimately, wishing for a reality that's already collapsed is useless. That will never make it real no matter the duration or intensity, if anything it makes things worse. You have to build something new or drown.

Depends on the circumstances, I guess, but, at least based on my almost no experience, there is. You're never getting over death, so if that's how it is, then, yeah, that's a piece of you condemned to eternal suffering you'll just have to get used to. Otherwise, while initially it's the same or worse, in the long term (2 years? plausible, 3-4 maybe better), if you manage to keep in touch as friends/humans (which fortunately modern technologies allow for), it will help ground you in reality, which usually turns out to be not as bad as you imagined to yourself. I mean, if you never even see her again, how do you know you have feels for her and not some vague recollection of your own emotions?
