Imagine a text or graphical UI in 2022 that actually used the keyboard's Function Keys the way they were intended:

* there's an always-visible numbered menu bar on the edge of the screen
* I mean always, it never goes away
* pushing any function key always, and only ever, selects the matching menu option
* no I'm serious, F5 does not mean "refresh" and F3 does not mean "rerun search", they mean literally "do the thing marked F5 at this point"

@natecull one of the most useful key commands of #Emacs is "C-h k" - this will explain the action of the next key (or key-sequence) you enter. Another useful feature, when you choose via menu, /current/ key commands are listed for every action that has one.

Alternatively, it's 2022, why not simply put a tiny screen ON the function keys? We should ask @ancientjames about this ...

@teledyn @ancientjames @natecull optimus keyboards toyed with this concept a few years back
