Can someone with better legal knowledge than I have explain whether ignoring #ECHR court rulings is equivalent to de facto withdrawal from the ECHR, or is it more complicated than that?

Because if it is a de facto withdrawal, that would have ... consequences, right?

@statsguy Can't speak to the legalities of it, but as ever it's the tory leadership capitulating to the more fascist elements of the party. Great.

@nullifidian I'm sceptical about the idea of the leadership capitulating to the more fascist elements. What if the leadership *are* the more fascist elements?

@statsguy Touché, although I suspect that while Patel, Francois & co are backbenchers, the current leadership aren't yet quite that far right.

I did use "more" with some consideration...

@statsguy Braverman, obvs., being a serious thorn to my point. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@nullifidian I have a mole in the Home Office who's worked with both Braverman and Patel.

The verdict is that Braverman is a much nicer person to work with than Patel, who is a deeply unpleasant person.

However, Braverman is even more bonkers than Patel. And my mole was keen to point out that Patel is still very bonkers.

@statsguy It's nice to know we have such qualified professionals with no concerning character flaws at the top of government.
