In the couple of years I’ve been on Fosstodon, I’ve tried a few mobile clients; none have ever felt like “the one”. Some I’ve moved on from because they’ve been abandoned, others just didn’t feel right, there’s been a couple that feel almost perfect but one critical thing is missing.
At the moment I’m trying Mona and it might be the closest to peak Mastodon mobile app yet.
Only… even it’s got an odd design choice or two.
Possibly the most off-putting aspect is filtering and account notes. It seems to support this while absolutely ignoring those features baked right into mastodon itself. So using this I can’t view, edit or add notes to people’s profiles such that they’re available in any other client. Ditto filters, as far as I can see.
It feels like a very subtle form of lock-in.
I’m still on the trial version, I’m minded to buy it. But this makes me pause.
@davep I’m the same. Each client I’ve tried has had one or two key features either missing or lacking decent execution. Currently rocking with Ice Cubes but I’m still not settled.
@nullifidian Huh, never seen that one. For me it’s more a case of when I share an image via the share sheet, it more often than not attaches two copies of the image, or none.
