@petergleick now if we can compensate for the dreaded 4pm to 9pm time of use that would be glorious, especially for busy families and working folks.
I'm not quite sure how to parse that, but I'd *guess* that 4-9 would remain more expensive because batteries are (for now anyway) more expensive than photovoltaics.
Residential battery backup systems typically now allow for home “load shifting" — power your house from the batteries during that time — but then of course you have to pay for the batteries. (CA does have good rebates)

@mmalc @eyeroll @petergleick A more cost effective approach is to put timers on loads like your freezer and AC so they do the bulk of the work at midday.
