Today's #energy supply for California, so far. Note: the massive #solar generation during the day (in green) both cuts natural gas use AND charges batteries (purple). Those batteries will fill the gap in the evening as solar ramps down.

@petergleick now if we can compensate for the dreaded 4pm to 9pm time of use that would be glorious, especially for busy families and working folks.

I'm not quite sure how to parse that, but I'd *guess* that 4-9 would remain more expensive because batteries are (for now anyway) more expensive than photovoltaics.

Residential battery backup systems typically now allow for home “load shifting" — power your house from the batteries during that time — but then of course you have to pay for the batteries. (CA does have good rebates)
