Rode the *complete* Somerville Community Path extension this morning, pre-dawn, as the fences were finally down at the high school.

Bike traffic jams on Beacon St and Somerville Ave. This corridor is one of the busiest bike routes in the region, serving thousands of commuters each direction each day.

I can't get over the story of the Texas professor suspended for criticizing the Lt.Governor. This is how fu**ed up this is:

The conservative student should have known better; her conservative mother should have known better; the Lt.Gov should have known better; the Lt.Gov's staff should have known better; and the University should have known better.
Any ONE of them should have shut down the complaint and stood up for free speech. But every one of them went full fascist.

I'm calling them 𝕏crements, and the verb is 𝕏crete. You can use 💩 as an abbreviation.

I once was asked to sign an "advice book" at a wedding. This was literally the best advice I could ever offer.

Jason Kander:

Classified #documents - a shopping analogy:

As #Biden walked out, the buzzer went off and he realized he mistakenly failed to pay for an item in his cart. He went back in and returned it.

#Trump stuffed items in his pockets. When the buzzer sounded, he ran to his car and peeled out.

My first posting on mastodon but as I have no followers nobody is likely to see it.

Needed some pictures to illustrate a semi-serious presentation, so I finally gave Dall-E 2 a shot, and what can I say, the Hacker Cats of Dall-E are quite good.

Sad news from UNC Chapel Hill Computer Science — Fred P. Brooks, the founder and long-time chair of the department (and a major influence on my professional outlook) passed away a few hours ago.

My hot take: the next thing Mastodon should do is not just hold to the 64k limit (or raise it) but start evolving the desktop and mobile UIs to encourage longer posts. Twitter and Facebook's pivoting of our brains towards required brevity is a major part of how we all wound up in this hellscape out of Black Mirror. It's time to nudge people back towards normal attention spans.

I'm thinking of doing Advent of Code in it.

QT @AaronGuhreen@twitter.com:

“Frustrating how New Zealand confirmed the YIMBY thesis correct, literally based their reforms on Scott Wiener’s SB 827, built a ton of housing and saw decreases in real housing costs for households of all incomes but we still talk about this issue like it’s an open question.”
