@sam ah, basically, yeah. That's why #mastodon is a rather noisy protocol, since it is push-based instead of pull-based.

I suppose it is theoretically possible to deduplicate requests so if @taylorlorenz has 50k followers on mastodon.social then it only sends 1 for all 50k...

I don't know if that's the case right now though.

@devnull @sam If you mean the ActivityPub protocol, shouldn't the users be disproportionately represented by a small number of servers?

Or do you mean between the server and the client?
