As we know, a few higher courts in Japan ruled that the prohibition on same sex marriage is unconstitutional.

Someone argued that because there was a lower court which thought otherwise that there is a split but I'm sceptical of that. I wouldn't write that off so quickly.

It's also important to remember that there is broad support for it among the public (going by polls) and the political environment is moving more in that direction.
