What's the best crunchy simulation #ttrpg?
@peterdrake Rolemaster 😉
@peterdrake
the only Traveler i played was very variant, so 🤷.
My last campaign was GURPS. Which was a reasonable choice then.
Were I to start anew (vs rebooting prior world), Fudge or FATE or one of the other open-source rulesets would be strong contenders.
@peterdrake I typically refer to Hero as "the programming language of RPGs," because it's far more like trying to express your intent to a machine than actually describing a concept.
Sometimes that's what you want or need, but Hero will always be what it is.
@peterdrake @Tim_Eagon I really like #EclipsePhase for a crunchier simlulation that takes on both mental and physical aspects rather than “hit points”.
@peterdrake are people out there still playing GURPS?
@pixel @peterdrake I miss that, since I moved in the late beforetimes, I mostly had to adapt to the chosen games of my new location. Need to shape those groups to accept the True Wisdom ;)
@peterdrake runequest 4evah
All the combat, skill and magic mechanics actually makes sense, separately and together
Nephilim and Ringworld were two unbelievably great spinoffs using the same basic mechanics
Nephilim was really hard to find players for, no one understood the concept lol
I'll mention the somewhat obscure EABA to seed the "other" discussion.
