In CityLab, I spoke with Jarrett Walker about his newly revised book -- and the strategies that can help #transit agencies survive the myriad challenges they now face.

@davidzipper "whether you are going to stand in the rain, snow or the beating sun for five minutes." @humantransit trimet calls it frequent service when the bus is scheduled every 15min. Rarely have I waited five minutes or less for a bus in #Portland πŸ˜’. Also are other transit agencies so hostile to bikes? Like trimet tries very hard to slow down people on bikes, because they can't compete with bikes on speed and reliability, even biking 90 minutes to some areas beats the transfer and walking

@davidzipper @humantransit maybe it's not an anti-competition motive and just woefully incompetent transit board, plus the electeds who appoint them and manage funding all having never heard of bicycles.

@enobacon @davidzipper @humantransit We have a golden opportunity to elect better people to the Portland city council. Some candidates, like Chad Lykins and Steph Routh, are much more bike friendly.
