The whole point of what makes a game a game is competition. That's the way real life works, too.
The ones who are the loudest about wanting to change all that, to make everything "fair" are the ones who can't cut it in life and want to drag everyone else down to their level rather than working to improve and elevate themselves.
@Wileymiller @deborahh Real life is neither purely competitive nor purely cooperatives. You do have to stand up for yourself, but to some degree we're all in this together.
There are good games where two teams compete (Bridge, Captain Sonar, team sports). There are good games where everyone works against a hidden traitor (Shadows Over Camelot, Betrayal at House on the Hill). There are also excellent, challenging games where everyone competes against the game (Pandemic, Flash Point, Gloomhaven, Ghost Stories).

It's not for everyone; I've found it fun & thought-provoking, good for getting to know people, or for getting people to talk a bit about themselves. In my family, this is a revolutionary suggestion; the boys have refused to play without even looking at the game! #eww
