food / eating / nutrition

My coach thinks I'm likely not getting enough protein, and he's probably right, which means it's time to dive back down the rabbit hole of food tracking apps. Any suggestions?

I mostly cook from scratch, so with most data entry is tedious super-obnoxious. What I really want is something where I can free-form enter an ingredient list (a la Paprika), and have it work out the calories/macros. Does this exist?

(Don't suggest MyFitnessPal, it's the worst in this regard.)

I’m giving MacroFactor a try (hat tip ‪@pganssle‬). It seems to most closely match what I want here, particularly the “AI Describe” entry option.

Lots of folks (more) suggested Cronometer, which also looks good. I’ll give that a shot next if needed.

@jacob I'm curious to know, did MacroFactor work out for you, or did you find something different?

@pganssle yeah, I’m liking MacroFactor a lot. The “ai describe” feature wasn’t as good as advertised, but everything else is real nice. They’ve clearly focused a lot of attention on minimizing clicks to log food which is great. And I LOVE how carefully they’ve implemented the app as a judgement-free tracker - everything’s done in a value-neutral way (as opposed to the unhealthy obsession with losing weight that every other calorie tracking app seems to encourage).
