'thinking of how crazy it is some conservatives say evolutionary biology / science caused the holocaust/hitler.

Evolutionary biology is *science*, it just says what happened not what people should do.

We don't say the existence of chemistry books causes people to be arsonists XD

Or understanding how rockslides work causes people to push rocks off mountains onto cars like looney toons characters XD

Or powder dynamicists who say "this is how avalanches work" are also saying "people should try to cause avalanches; it's a natural thing; there's no sense in trying to deny nature" (XD)

Of course you can understand a thing and think it's *bad!* XD (or bad *when it involves **people!***)

That describes how almost everyone thinks about *all of the knowledge about how hurricanes and volcanos and rock slides and avalanches and tornados and pandemics and diseases and explosions and etc. work!* XD

Not always having knowledge about a thing is good.
Indeed, science works to extend human understanding of the mechanisms of what surrounds us, but wether extending that knowledge is good is debatable.

Most often scientists have no bad intentions, but discoveries can be used to make bot constructive and destructive things.
If medicinal chemistry wasn't so advanced we wouldn't have such problems with drug addictions.
If nuclear physics wasn't a thing, we wouldn't have guns that could destroy the world.

Indeed science provides many benefits to society as well.
I think it's important to ponder wether the development of science is good for humanity.

I think it's good.

@rastinza Absolutely, thanks!

I think the heart of the matter is that certain people want to frame the debate about whether science/knowledge is good, when like you said, it can be used for good and bad (so knowledge is amoral), in order to divert the focus of discussion away from how decisions are made and what science is used for,

Because those same people are using science for things most people would agree is bad.

(Like Fox News blaming science for racism instead of themselves xD )
