@xtaldave It's generally accepted to write an post and pin it on top of the profile.
Then again, if you look at a lot of users that have been here for a long time that is not really the case.
If you look at my profile you have a brief introduction and one in Spanish because I wished to enter the circle of people from over there.

I also started my experience on Mastodon trying to find interesting people to follow.
I discourage you from doing that.
Try to rely more on the local timeline to find interesting people and expand from there.

I'm currently writing down several notes on my experience on Mastodon and I wish to transform those into a guide to socializing on the Fediverse.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of guides which explain the technical aspects of the fediverse but no real how to use and what to do guide for new people...

@xtaldave BTW, I'll take down some notes here since I'm on the way: I have not used Twitter extensively, I had an account and maybe used it a couple of weeks so I don't know very well how that works.
What I've noticed in these two twitter migrations is that people using Twitter behave very differently from Mastodon users.
First of all it's very common for past twitter users to use their own full name and to have a picture of themselves; this is extremely rare on Mastodon and it's generally done by artists trying to sponsor their works and such things.
Moreover, twitter users use a huge amount of hashtags within their text, I had already written about this in the past; older Mastodon users generally add at most a couple hashtags at the beginning or at the end of the toot and very rarely mixed within the text.

What I've noticed from the first Twitter migration is that these behaviors disappeared after a while, not sure if that's because Twitter users integrated in the Mastodon culture or just stopped using it altogether.
