I think the biggest problem is people think just because a server runs gab software, it's associated with Gab. That is not the case.
I remember when exited.eu came it. It heavily restricted political speech of any kind (and seemed to lean far left), and despite the creator being a leftist, he was harassed into shutting it down.
@isolategab @realcaseyrollins That's an okayish point, but what if somebody wants to monetize their instance and likes Gab's methods of doing so? What if somebody genuinely likes Gab's interface? There is more than one reason to use Gab software.
@realcaseyrollins Agree it is not sufficient to show they also support federating Gab content. But given that it cripples features behind a paywall that Mastodon has free, and most of the other extensions are not clear improvements....currently main reason to run Gab fork is to support their efforts, development of their fork, and so far, all federate their content.
