But in the case of instances like Gab that welcome unmoderated hate speech as part of their core mission, not sure what other options there would be to try first for instances where that content is against their content policies....

Sounds to me that you don't like free speech. Which is fine. But I don't think it's fair to pressure others to crack down on free speech by accusing them of giving racists a voice. The racists already have a voice, free speech platforms on the Fediverse exist. The question is, are people willing to confront their speech, or merely place their fingers in their ears, ignoring the racists and pretending they don't exist.

@isolategab @masterofthetiger@theres.life The problem of racism is not being fixed at all by telling non-racists not to engage with and talk to them. That creates a hateful, racist echo-chamber.

Let's not get it twisted, these aren't "far right" or "alt right" platform, despite the fact that their nature enables those groups. They're for all free speech. Anyone can join. If you want to fight racism on Gab as I do, make an account their and confront neo-Nazis.
