GOOD DESIGN: Video game controller

From a user interface design standpoint, this is the best modern video game controller. It's because of the buttons.

Want to "go"? Press the big green button. The red button does a secondary action. The two grey buttons are for less important actions.

The visual design of the controller communicates to the player how the buttons are used.

I first learned design from making websites. It's not just about colors and layout, but about communicating how things work through their design. If you can teach people how something works without directly telling them, you've created a good design.

I was also impressed by the design of this Roku TV remote lately. In this case, a regular TV remote has been stripped to only the most essential components. This makes the device more approachable and easier to learn.

Again, similar concepts can be applied to web design.

@alex Is this the most recent version? The ones my parents have at home have a slightly different layout.

@alex I personally own a 4K Fire Stick. It's very superior to the Roku in terms of user experience (everything is smoother and interfaces are better), and due to Android app support I can also watch (legally free) IPTV channels.

Also, I like how the Fire Stick's remote doesn't have app buttons. We literally don't use any of the app buttons on our Roku back home, making it dead space IMHO.

@realcaseyrollins Nice! I do like that it doesn't have the brand buttons on it.

@realcaseyrollins @alex The Amazon Fire is my streaming device of choice. Would like to pair it with a sideclick soon.
