Everyone, the internet has failed. It had a good run and it’s amazing how long it lasted. But now it’s only a place for corporations to extract as much revenue as possible out of everyone. Move along; nothing to see here. Don’t poke the corpse.
@lazarus Still the internet, though. We need something new. Maybe a global mesh network?

@js 👍😁 Setting up Freifunk routers everywhere. But most time I‘m the only one doing it close to me.

map.freifunk.ruhr/#!/de/map/64

@lazarus That’s still the internet. I meant something purely routed via a mesh network.

@js Freifunk would work without the Internet if there were enough nodes. 😉

@lazarus IP is already a bad idea because of the server-client model. Over time, it will just develop into just the same shit as now.

WDYM by server-client model? That one side needs to know the other's address to establish any sort of communication/that they need to be concurrently online to communicate/something else?

@robryk @lazarus Rather than addressing computers, addressing content. Shout into the network “I want XYZ” or “I offer ABC”. But no central routing and not one server serving thousands of clients where you then have centralization around the server.

@js @lazarus

Hm~ I don't see how this works for anything that either wants to hide metadata, or anything that tries to provide realtime communications.

I also don't see why anything else encourages centralization. Are you thinking of web as content dissemination (as opposed to small group communication) network?

@robryk @lazarus I’m thinking of the server-client model inherently leading to servers growing bigger and bigger, until they are run by big corporations and users letting them host all their content.

Realtime communications would still be possible and mostly be limited by the latency of a mesh network.

Anyway, I’m drunk and not going to write a design doc now ^^.

@js @lazarus

I just don't see which meaning of client-server implies that (for example, why should servers and not clients get bigger?). I do see that a client-server model _where it's hard to be a server_ causes that.
