being a medic is about 79% trying to get people to drink water and 20% trying to keep milk out of people’s eyes

@winter 10% handing out OTC painkillers and menstrual supplies
0.5% putting water in the eyes you kept milk out of
0.5% everything else

@dangerdyke @winter MILK IN EYES???

The “pepper” in pepper spray is the same as in spices, but there is no amount of milk that is going to wash that out what the hell

@yassie_j @winter its an incredibly pervasive urban legend that its effective eyewash, every time there’s a big protest wave it makes the rounds and its up to medics to stop people from spreading it everywhere

@dangerdyke @winter It’s one of those “nugget of truth” things. Yes, milk helps when you eat spicy food. But the concentration of capsaicin in pepper spray is way way higher!!! The milk is just simply ineffective. It’s like trying to put out a fire with a water gun.

@yassie_j @winter even if it did something, first rule of medicine is “do no harm.” milk has potential to do harm, so we don’t use milk

Out of curiosity, what's the potential harm? (Is it ~biological or ~chemical?)
