TIL that the people who did Qi are now working on Ki for kitchen stove^Wcountertop appliances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90Q7OM3W8T0 has some details on 2.2 kW power transfer by induction (either hob or under the cooktop). I'm not necessarily convinced that this would ever really take off, but it's a neat idea, especially in small kitchens where you struggle with space and power outlets. I'd definitely use it but here we often rent kitchens and it's hard to retrofit this kind of stuff.
@robryk It would only induct when the appliance requests power and presumably if it's a problem to have on an induction hob it'd be a problem here. TBH, I don't believe the wireless power transmission in the cooktop is the interesting thing but rather reusing the dedicated energy transmission surface that's the hob.
