I did not get a chance to talk about this earlier but my US History class was amazing. We kicked it off w/ civil rights, and had the balls to say "all lives matter" and "the south was wrong" in the same breath. What a champ.

The only thing from what he said that gave me pause was when he insinuated that there was some sort of "party switch" in the 1960s, but I suppose we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

@realcaseyrollins
Yes: all lives matter

The south was wrong if the 13 colonies were wrong. Declaring independence has been said to be a fundamental right, duty even, to dissolve non-productive political control.

There was a party switch. The south used to be majorly Democrat. Now it's majorly Republican.

@sda Firstly, you begin with a false equivalence fallacy. The South seceding is not the same as a large portion of the country packing up and leaving.

Secondly, the party switch my Prof was referring to was a change in ideology, not geography.

@realcaseyrollins
1) So... what's the difference between the colonies declaring independence and the south declaring independence?

2) Change in ideology. Isn't that what I said?

@sda It's not the declaring independence that is different, but jurisdiction. The colonies literally moved. The South just broke the law.

@realcaseyrollins
The colonies moved? So, Pennsylvania moved to North Carolina? I don't follow what you're trying to convey.

What law did the South break? Article and Section please.

@sda The colonies were outside of Britain's jurisdiction. They had a right to declare independence.

And the South was in violation of the Emancipation Proclamation.

@realcaseyrollins

> The colonies were outside of Britain's jurisdiction.

By definition, a British colony receives benefits from Britain, and has obligations to Britain, and is under British control
How do you think they were outside Britain's jurisdiction?

The Emancipation Proclamation came AFTER the war. Secession was before the war.

> The South just broke the law.

Again, what law, specifically, did the south violate?

@sda

What on earth makes you think the colonies were still in the jurisdiction of Britain? That's like saying if I move to Australia I'm still in the jurisdiction of America.

And the South was treasonous, plain and simple. Hopefully you can admit that, at least.

@realcaseyrollins

I'm not sure of the fedi term. Are you shitposting, or trolling?

What do they call it when you just make shit up without doing any research?

@sda I mean like that's the only logical reason for saying "the South was wrong", so like...💁🏾‍♂️
