Polls, violence and West Bengal

I don't think this gets covered enough in the mainstream media. But the bloodbath during polls in is concerning. And it will happen again, today.

Don't know if we need a top down change or a bottms up change, but this just pains me to see my state in this condition.

Isn’t it covered by the MSM? Of course, with each taking sides. First it was the finger pointing between Mamata’s camp v/s the CPI. And now it’s Mamata’s camp and the BJP lashing out at each other.

A state and people with such potential. Unfortunate that the brilliant ones have to move to better pastures (other states in India or abroad).

/Coming from someone who has worked in Kol for close to 5 years and has had friends from W. Bengal for the last 20 years or so - though we hardly talk politics.

@Deus @mastodonindians The coverage is there (like you said with channels supporting their fav party).

But my biggest worry is how normalised it is now. And no one tries to change it.

Already 8 have died now.

how normalised it is now

So true. I also notice it when I go there nowadays - the way certain people are asserting things with symbolism (planting flags etc on their roof top), the subtle fear (or guilt?) to serve/eat/sell a ‘certain’ meat, the freedom & safety that women used to enjoy - so many more things to add.

I can only hope this divisiveness - in the name of caste and religion - that’s happened in a majority of Indian states doesn’t happen in WB during my lifetime.
