Just explained to kid that in the 90s if you wanted to see some trailers to know if any upcoming movies seemed cool, you had to go watch a movie.

Of course, I'm really old. I'm just old enough to have caught the tail end of the newsreel era. (in black and white, of course.)

SPOILER for "Lateral" podcast a week or two ago 

On "Lateral" there was the question why so many people bought tickets for "Meet Joe Black", but left when the movie started.

It was because that movie premiered the long-awaited trailer for the first Star Wars prequel, so people went just for that.

@clacke Scary old guy here. Yeah, newsreels went out in the late 1950s as television news gained traction.
