I don't feel so bad about never reading or watching Harry Potter stuff now. For a long, long time I would be the subject of large intakes of breath..."YOU HAVEN'T?" like I had committed some crime against humanity. Just wasn't my bag, man.

@LikeItOrLumpIt Yes, I've known a number of people who hadn't seen Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, etc. My only argument to them for going to see them anyway, even if it's not your thing, is that extremely popular films / books result in widely adopted cultural memes. If you haven't seen the movie and someone says, "He's from the Darth Vader school of management," or "He's our Mr. Spock around here," you lack a solid feel for what they mean.

@shuttersparks

that's a good point....I never understand Trekkie reference or The Matrix ...stuff like that.

@LikeItOrLumpIt You never know. I had this discussion with a 30 year-old woman about five years ago. She was a die-hard Potter fan but knew nothing of Trek, Star Wars, or LotR. Ended up she liked all three. 🤷‍♂️
