Yes, this is true, but on a broader level, pretty much every Republican administration in modern memory had scandals -- fraud, lies, corruption -- that were insufficiently punished, if at all. Lack of accountability for reactionaries has been a defining feature of US politics since its founding.

The people trying to preserve status quo race, class, & gender hierarchies in the US are endlessly given more chances, their flaws explained away, their anger justified & rationalized, their crimes forgiven. It does not work that way for people seeking a more egalitarian, fairer America.

@volts.wtf I've said this repeatedly for 30 years. The Germans did what needed to be done after WW2. The USA did not, after the Civil War. We were FAR too lenient. Not only did we not hunt down and hang every Confederate leader, we allowed organizations like the Daughters of the Confederacy to flood the country with statues honoring Confederates and rename streets, plazas, and schools with the names of Confederate traitors.

We did it all wrong because we're nice and tolerant people.

There's no room for tolerance in cases like this. I know, I know, this is distasteful for liberals, but it's reality.

@shuttersparks @volts.wtf That's a nice myth. The Americans had a certain fire to clean up Nazi-Germany, but within less than 5 years the Cold War happened, and suddenly having a functioning Western Germany was more important then the question if the politician/judge/doctor happened to had been a glowing Nazi.

And the Russians integrated Nazis into their system, as long they weren't to prominent.

It's the age old problem, what do you do, if half the country are criminals?
