... not wholly my experience of my kids, but enough of it to recognize. If you have a healthy relationship with them, the certainty you want what's best for them muffles this stuff, though it doesn't stop it.

@fatsam That's basically correct. Having a raised three, this is how it goes. It went the same for me.

Cutting the apron strings means making your parents wrong so that you can leave the nest. Then around 21 to 24 years of age you discover that your parents were not as stupid as you thought and you make friends again.
