I heard 👏 enthusiasm for my suggestion that universities like #Stanford (& other non-profits, academic associations, etc.) set up #Mastodon #fediverse #opensource servers for the #TwitterMigration.

I've since learned this can happen most quickly through *existing* procedures for tech-savvy students & faculty to set up websites on their edu domains.

I hope this happens. They'd be proofs of concept & provide "lifeboats" (h/t @dynarski) for what I hope happens as the bird site melts down.

More so than the domain, I hope the students have enough permission access on the servers so they can deploy and manage the Mastadon containers. But it's , I would imagine the students are well empowered there. If it works, the University would definitely be also setting an example and benchmark for it's rivals. That would be fantastic.
