Idk if I'd call mindless repetition of engineered memes "participation"

@cjd @GluedToTheScreen to be clear, I do not endorse censorship by mainstream socnets. I do not believe they are capable of determinig what is false / disinformation, and therefore must not be required to do so.

That being said, I don't think stuff people repeat on socnets is any less propaganda that stuff on the TV.

@cjd @GluedToTheScreen I think we should have high standards on what we call "participation" (or should I say, "informed participation", kinda like "informed consent") and getting there would require a lot of education

@wolf480pl @cjd @GluedToTheScreen participation seems a reasonable word to use, unless you implicitly assume that it needs to pass a given standard before it counts

Imagine Hillary Clinton issuing you your Internet Driver's License 🤮

In China it's already just about that bad because Pooh makes all websites use phone login and keep the real identity of their users so they can pick them up in the night if they shitpost about the CCP.

I'm sure you're not, but any discussion of "moderation" or "minimum standards" will instantly be co-opted for political gain.

"common sense cryptography regulation" because i mean come on think of the children or something and also TERRORISM.
dont forget "common sense privacy regulation" banning VPNs just to make sure you aren't pirating disney IP via bittorrent. very very common and very very sense, much political expedience, many children thinking, wow! such minimalism.

I appreciate what you're getting at, but I think sarcasm is as likely to normalize tyranny as it is to route it out.

Better IMO: Degenerate sons of 20th century oligarchs are scrambling to ban VPNs and cryptocurrency because they've now finally got through their thick skulls what the internet truly is, and how it will inevitably bring about their empire of stupidity.

the IC and their corporate boomer funders now realize that cryptography does in fact not care about their feelings or "common sense regulation" and are rapidly panicking on how to deal with the realization of just how far behind they are in the game. the battle is not lost but the powers that be are now going to exert the maximum force of their influence. the correct play here is to make combating that entire aspect a fun game to play, as "serious business" will become a line of cleavage to fracture any kind of front pushed on them. when you are fluid you cannot fracture, they will just splash in a puddle of piss as we laugh at them.

A well audited set of cryptographic standards, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to design, implement and deploy cryptography, shall not be infringed.
