Is the American public really so stupid that they believe there are "nuclear codes" written down somewhere where all someone has to do is look at the paper, call a number and nuclear missiles are instantly in the air? And for that matter, if the paper is stolen, that the President suddenly loses his password and can no longer order a nuclear strike?

Y’all’d be shocked at how primitive the nuclear security and safety controls were throughout the Cold War. They might have improved the situation in the last ten or so years …

@Cosmic @amerika As I understand. It's a formal document that the president has to sign to issue the order. But the actual strike is carried out by the military via the order. There might be some password on the other end but it's not going from the President directly to the launch pad.
