This is an observatory in Charles Town. I saw it before but due to location would never have assumed it's got a telescope inside. Not 5 blocks away there is a casino with sometimes plenty of light pollution.

It makes me wonder what I might be able to see from my own property. I'm not far from here so maybe my assumption about lighting is incorrect.

@thatguyoverthere light pollution will raise the noise floor but a telescope will be able to work with that to some degree; longer exposure/greater magnification should both help but there will be a limit as to what you can acheive

@thatguyoverthere although tbh the more I think about it the tougher it seems

@thatguyoverthere filters for the wavelength of street lights would get you pretty far I imagine

I imagine the large telescope there has some ai magic but I always assumed anything in city limits would be too bright. I didn't think about how physical filters might be able to help.
Another thing is the casino is not always as bright as it can be. They may just coordinate their observations with more suitable nights

@thatguyoverthere timing and filters will play a larger role than any machine learning stuff
