I don't want to talk about racism to white folk that don't want to listen to Black folk talk about racism. That's a waste of everyone's time.

There's over a billion white folk that *do* want to hear from Black folk how to reduce racism. There's over 100MM just in the USA! I'm more than happy to have conversations with them instead.♥️

For a lot of us, the experience was the same. I tell folks, racism is just fascism practiced on Black people first.

If folks had listened to what Black women were trying to say during GamerGate, then those same actors might not have been able to metastasize their nonsense to the rest of these online spaces so easily.

Twitter was never a healthy "public square" for most of us. Let's not rewrite history while eulogizing the hellsite.
Twitter was a frightening battleground where we managed barely to claw out an uneasy existence amidst the worst violent neo-Nazi extremists who constantly published our home addresses, threatened our kids' lives, and sent hordes of racist trolls into our mentions.
The same principles that allowed us to survive uneasily on Twitter will be required here in the #fediverse. Community defense, thoughtful pressure on moderation policies, and eternal vigilance.
There are no safe spaces but those we make safe through constant effort. We keep us safe.

Nice thing about Mastodon: It's one of the extremely rare web pages I visit where my ad blocker doesn't need to do anything.

I just learned of several more instances that have removed us from block lists.. Im glad to see so many instance admins are willing to listen to reason and have changed their decisions in light of the facts and evidence. From what I hear it wasnt just my emails but the efforts of so many in the community showing support for us. I really appreciate that from all of you.
