it would be nice if we had some way to ensure the judiciary followed its actual mandate of just reviewing particular cases against the laws.
we have this deranged system where there is whatever legislators convene and write in to law, but that doesn’t mean much or anything. because whatever the judge says is what the law apparently means. and if about 13 judges up and decide the law is now you wear flaming panties on your head then that’s apparently what the law is and you can’t do anything about it (even if nobody ever actually voted this in to existence.)
why 13?
one to hear the original case, about 3 to turf the appeal to scotus, and 9 scotus judges to make the final unappealable decision.
this means whatever you think your government is, it’s actually run by 13 people.
