tfw. the sanest way to upload whole directories to an ftp server is midnight commander...

@wolf480pl There is nothing sane about ftp.

@wolf480pl sftp (the file transfer features of the ssh protocol used by eg scp) is saner.

@swiley yes, I know.
But I can't use an encrypted protocol because my NAS is too slow at decrypting (also it's on a separate local network so running unencrypted is ok-ish).

I guess I could hack together an sftp over plain tcp though...

@wolf480pl Man that sounds like the kinds of hacked together stuff I used in my teens. I guess it's good for learning.

@swiley tbh using ftp with midnight commander is good enough that I can't be assed to mess with unencrypted sftp at the moment.

If I end up using the NAS a significant amount, I'm gonna get a better one with saner CPU, but for now I'll stick to this shitbox.

@wolf480pl IMO: you shouldn't consider unencrypted an option. I totally get the "my house is secure" thing because I used to do that but one day you'll need the setup elsewhere and not having encryption as the default will make you more likely to build things in an insecure way.

@swiley it's not just "my house is secure", it's literally "I set aside a separate VLAN for this box". And don't worry, I'm not going to use unencrypted as a default, ever. And I'm unlikely to ever replicate this setup on anything else.
