We're still in a place where when computers try to be "helpful" (using #AI, predictive #algorithms, recommendation algorithms etc.) are too close to #Clippy territory instead of being genuinely helpful.
So I'd rather have them not try to do that. I know what I'm doing and would prefer to not having to constantly undo the "help".
I'd pay a big premium for a professional-grade #desktop #OS and other #software options that yank all that stuff (which is mostly consumer-oriented and/or trying to drive add-on revenue) from it, and leave me be so I can be productive.
I don't mind waiting for this technology to mature, and if it ever gets to a point that puts the I in AI, I'll consider using it.
@timokissel have you an opinion on #HaikuOS https://haiku-os.org ?
@timokissel I can't reconcile
> options that yank all that stuff (mostly consumer-oriented) and let me be productive
and reacting to Haiku OS with
> doesn't have the broad ecosystem of apps that Windows and MacOS have
@tetrislife @timokissel I run stuff like Word and Excel and it doesn’t run on HaikuOS (or does it?)
