The amazing USian checks and balances have delivered pretty much zilch since people really started touting them as the most effective defence of democracy back in '16.

This far all I've seen is some courts managing to delay fascist lawmakers for a year or two, and some lawmakers managing to delay fascist court rulings for a year or two, but none actually stopping the putsch.

But yeah, separation of powers doesn't on its own prevent a fascist turn if the support is strong enough, and it's really weird when people argue that anything but anti-fascist agitation and action is inherently able to stop it.
