If you were also wondering how far down the list of replacement CEOs OpenAI's board had to go before settling on someone without major AI experience as the interim CEO, it was pretty far.
Besides being rejected by Anthropic's CEO, they were also rejected by the former Github CEO, Nat Friedman and Scale AI CEO, Alex Wang.
I expect more people who said "nope" when offered Sam Altman's former gig will emerge over the next few days.

Did Sam Altman had AI experience when OpenAI was founded, or is the concern about such experience just moving goalposts? I checked Wikipedia but all it said in terms of technical experiencec is that Altman dropped out of STEM collage after a year
