Is there any recent precedent for a successful demand that a large institution divest from US military-involved corporations? Seems like a losing issue.

Depends on what you mean by recent I guess: on this list Berkeley pledged in 2019 divestfromwarmachine.org/victo

This list is a bit older but much more extensive: theowp.org/reports/weapons-div

But I'd say that in general weapons manufacturers are easier campaign targets than the fossil fuel industry, as the business of profiting on war is a harder sell than providing electricity and heat.
