I was going to make a joke post like "'sup y'all, just violating French trademark law" but actually I could not successfully take a photo with appropriate contrast to capture both myself and the trademark violation at the same time. I think I need "HDR". I don't think my $35 Wal-Mart burner phone has HDR.

I have learned since making this that the (tower) is not copyrighted or trademarked; although France does not have freedom of panorama, the (tower) is not eligible for copyright because it was built in 1923. However the *lights* on the (tower) were installed in 1985 and those *are* copyrighted, and the *name* of the (tower) is trademarked. Therefore you are only violating French IP law if you take a photo at night, or call the (tower) by name. I will have to try harder. klemchuk.com/ideate/illegal-ph

@mcc "freedom of panorama" is a term I'd never heard of or even considered that photographs of a public landmark would be restricted.

@vmstan @mcc Me, neither. But it seems like that article is out of date—France added a non-commercial freedom of panorama the year before it was written: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_

@glennf @vmstan *scratching head* never before in my life have I encountered this many difficulties attempting to intentionally break the law

@mcc @vmstan Perhaps you could obtain a dog and have it relieve itself in the wrong place. Although I have never seen that enforced in France, either.

@glennf @vmstan hm, but that would create problems both for street cleaning crews and the other pedestrians. The most pleasurable crime to commit is the one which is victimless

@mcc @glennf @vmstan I’m sure if you ate at a McDonalds that would at least count as a moral crime there.

@michaelgemar
If you want to commit culinary crimes in France I suggest you go eat some of the _french_ tacos you will find in some fast food joints.

Obviously not criminal in France but you can then forever upset any mexicans you encounter.

@tobychev @michaelgemar @glennf @vmstan Soy de Tejas, probablemente mi comida ya era consternando los mexicanos
