Twitter Files nonsense aside, it is worth thinking about how the security apparatus will deal with Mastodon as it grows. These small instances will not have the resources to handle FBI pressure or requests, or infiltration by other governments, etc. If this thing keeps growing without developing on that front shit could go sideways in fall 2024

@tonic how much damage could a malignant actor do by putting up their own instance and disseminating disinformation, before everyone had time to block them?
@philipncohen they’re already doing it , and already blocked … see also @freemo new initiative … turns out distributed systems have a lot more capacity to moderate than centralized systems 🤔🤔
