Today we found out one of our colleagues wasn't familiar with even the most famous studio Ghibli movies and actually with the anime culture as a whole (beyond knowing it existed somewhere). Which reminded me how flimsy is the notion of things that "everyone knows".

So our team had treated him as a lucky 10000-er xkcd.com/1053/ :-)

@isagalaev Cute. So, did you treat him with a Ghibli marathon?

@trinsec not no, we just suggested a couple of starters :-) And I expressed an opinion that Spirited Away may not be the best to start with, due to its weirdness :-)

@isagalaev But. but.. I'd actually suggest Spirited Away first because it's one of their greatest movies!

@trinsec and you know that because you've seen others :-)

For the record, I suggested Nausicaä and Castle in the Sky, as they seem to me as an introduction into this whole stylistic of post-apocalyptic worlds that I associated with Ghibli from the get-go.

@isagalaev Hey, why not show him Porco Rosso? That's a cool one while not being TOO weird. Besides the protagonist being a pig, that is. :D

@trinsec we'll see what he'll have to say about it after he watches at least one of them :-)
