Could be worse. A long time ago I've had eggs boiling and totally forgot about it. Unfortunately I also had that fancy plastic egg-shaped thing in the water which shows me when it's ready (shows when it's soft, middle, or hardboiled)... and that melted into the pan. Igh.. now that's a smell you won't soon forget. :P

I work with timers on my smartphone nowadays, definitely won't forget anything with this anymore. :P
