Bought foodstuffs to make a stamppot andijvie with sometime this week. 😋

@trinsec we had stimpstamp this week! raw endives mashed into cooked potatoes, with fried vegan bacon bits

@StroomAfwaarts I'm still of opinion that if it is vegan, it shouldn't be called bacon or anything meat-related. :P

But if they have the same salty taste as the spekjes that I'm going to prepare, I'd love to try that someday.

@trinsec the vegan alternatives are getting better and better! the bacon used to taste like salty croutons, but now it has the texture and umami of bacon.
I wondered just yesterday, in the supermarket in front of the vegan alternatives fridge, where all the protesting meat producers went.
Your critique is the first I heard in a long time. I guess covid got in the way?

@trinsec
I mean when it is the quiet season, known in the Netherlands as cucumber time, all these complaints are big stories in the news. Covid is bigger so that suppressed the meat producers' complaints

@StroomAfwaarts I've never stopped thinking that vegan shouldn't try to 'mimick' meat. It is as if the vegan way wants to admit that they are inferior to meat, so they need to look and taste like meat.

While there are perfectly fine vegetarian/vegan meals without having to pretend there's meat.

@trinsec Very true! We cook without fake meat a lot too, but less than we used to ...
