Just installed Signal to see what it's like. The desktop app is acceptable. It can minimize to tray bar, which is extremely important to me as my task bar is cluttered enough as is. Customization options on both desktop and mobile are reasonably nice too. I guess I can run this messenger too.

Now to wait until after easter to contact my coworkers. :P

@taylan Oh, I'm using that term very loosely. I know some use Signal or Whatsapp, and refuse to use Telegram (which is my preferred medium). From Whatsapp I keep missing messages because I refuse to run the desktop version (which stopped working anyway) because it's just a visual cluttery mess. Signal on the other hand is acceptable, so maybe I won't be missing some messages anymore as I barely look at my phone's screen.

@trinsec I've tried so hard to migrate my circle to Signal for at least 2 years. Yet, I failed, and installed WhatsApp again. Hate to use but it's a necessity in my country.

@taylan @trinsec >Signal
lol

Just hard-line stance: "I do not use proprietary shit. If you want to speak to me, my contact page is [here], or I'll see you at [group]".

@Zergling_man @trinsec My issue is not with proprietary softwares, it's spesifically with Meta. I don't see them reliable to handle my data. I use many CAD softwares that are proprietary in my work (which runs Windows btw) and home PCs. First impressions about strangers always doesn't show their stands on various topics.

@taylan I still somewhat use Whatsapp but when people want to contact me it's the least reliable form of messaging. They're better off using Telegram, and now also Signal, to get ahold of me. For Whatsapp I have to stare at a tiny phone screen... my sister already learned to get her tablet with Telegram if she really wants to contact me. My brother refuses and I read his group chat messages like once a month as result. :P (Put on mute, of course)

I'm reading more and more signals (heh, pun!) that more and more companies/schools/etc around here are moving on to Signal, so maybe I've joined on this bandwagon at the right time and more people will be using it. Especially as Facebook (or Meta, whatever) is pushing Whatsapp to be more Facebook-like.

@trinsec yeah, WhatsApp's transformation and the company itself concerns me. Hopefully that trend comes soon to Turkey.

@taylan Likewise, plus that Whatsapp is actually a shitty messenger. No customization possible (not much anyway) and the desktop version was the worst I've seen in a long time. Can't even minimize it to tray bar, which is.. whoa really, are you seriousy it's the 21st century!

Meh, Whatsapp just sucks. :)
